How Jesus Changed my Life

My life changed in an instant when Christ came into my life.

When my eldest son was 11 months old he suffered a severe scalding with boiling water through an accident. I was very shattered by the experience and could only sigh and wonder how this could be.

When my daughter was born her birth was very difficult and she received an injury to her neck. A tumor developed and this caused the right side of her face to develop more slowly than the left side. By the time she was five months of age surgery was needed. She was encased in a plaster cast from her waist for six weeks. I had weekly visits to the hospital for some months, checking her progress. Once again I could only sigh and wonder what was happening to my babies.

I became pregnant with my third child. My concern for his well-being was very great. I wondered if there was someone or something that could watch over what happened to my babies. Also, I wondered what the 'meaning of life' was. This was a big question within me, especially because at the same time that I was concerned about keeping my babies alive, the teen-agers of the day were playing a game of 'chicken' having no regard for their own lives.

I could only sigh and wonder.

One evening a neighbor invited us to dinner and during the course of conversation I mentioned that I could not understand how a mother could be so concerned for the lives of her children as babies, only for them to throw away their lives as teenagers. I said "what can we do?" Her answer to me was, "all you have to do is pray."

In that moment I saw that God was living. He could hear my prayer. He was not a dumb idol that could not answer, but a God who could hear and answer me. A God who would listen to me and comfort me. I saw that He could understand how I felt and that I needed someone to be there for me. I came to realize that this God was a living Person; I came to realize that this was Jesus Christ. No longer did I need to sigh and wonder about anything. I could pray. And this is what I have been doing for the past 39 years. Everything is taken to the Lord in prayer. Not only have my children all survived the ordeals that they went through as babies but they also have come to know the Lord Jesus as their Savior in a personal way.
